According to Wujec, we can best engage our students by using visual aids and forms of learning. This is because the brain is stimulated by what we see. Therefore, using all visual forms of media for teaching, will apparently help our students learn.
I think it is important to incorporate many senses into a lesson plan because the more senses that are engaged, the more connections that can be made. Also, there are many types of students in a class that may make connections more strongly using other senses.
I think you are absolutely right that it is important to incorporate multiple senses. With this, it is important to know the needs of your students. For example, my little sister is anosmic. This means that she cannot smell. When she has to answer questions about smell for school, she never knows how to answer, because she has never experienced smelling anything. Teachers are generally understanding, but they don't know this about her until she tells them. Though smell is probably the least used sense in the classroom, it still affects my sister, and it is still something to be aware of for teachers and goes to show that teachers can't make assumptions about perception abilities of their students.
