Grouping Practices Post 2

Some cultural/societal tools that teachers use:

1.  While teaching different topics in a social studies class, some teachers use current events to relate the ideas to real-life situations.  This helps the students remember these topics.  When they can remember what the example was, they will be able to remember what the term or idea was.

2.  A teacher used a Prezi presentation to teach a lesson.  In society today, electronics are everywhere.  Students relate to them because they have grown up using them.  Students often relate to electronics, which causes them to remember the material presented in them better.  Also, it is interesting to watch, so they will be engaged, making them remember it.

  1. I recall my teachers in high school had us do current events every week to keep us all engaged in class and make sure we were applying our knowledge. It helped because we were able to recall topics easier and relate topics we were learning about to stuff that was actually going on in media today. Last semester in group projects we would use Prezi as a way to introduce information through electronics. Our generations now-a-days are based off electronics so teaching with them allows students to stay engaged and it keeps them from getting bored easier than with a simple powerpoint. Thus making them remember it more, as you said.
