Module 6 ~ Part 2

THe way we can engage students brains is to engage different parts of their brains. We must not only use visual cues, but also give them cognitive cues as well. As a teacher we have to be able to present the information and yet also require our students to really think about what we are presenting and stimulate their thinking. We also need to make sure we are keeping the children engaged by asking them questions, doing projects, group work, etc. Another great way to engage students to allow them to see motion. Powerpoints allow movement much more than a piece of paper so it is a good way to present information in classrooms.

Using a different pathway could be something such as a different sense. By using touch, hearing, smell, taste can enhance other parts of the brain and can allow students to focus on what is being taught. It allows them to learn something in a new way. For example have a student draw by closing their eyes allows students to FEEL the way they are drawing the lines and the movements, rather than just watching their hands do the work. Or if the child is being asked to describe an object, take away their eye sight. Make them close their eyes and use other senses to distinguish the object. It stimulates other aspects of the brain, engages them, and makes them more apt to learn.
