Cultural tools or practices in the classroom that are present in classrooms today are the presence of computers and laptops. These technological tools provide so many different applications that help us learn each and every day. We use Microsoft Word to create documents, google and other search engines to research information, even Facebook and twitter for social media. These tools help us learn about information assigned in the classroom, but also about the world around us and what is happening in current society. Society is evolving to be more technologically advanced, therefore classrooms have had to adapt as well and students now are in a generation where everything or most items are completed and found through the social media or the internet so teachers must teach students how to use these items properly in and out of school so that they know what is appropriate to use. As years go by, technology will be more and more prevalent and the young students today need to be prepared for themselves and teach new students in the future as well.

Another useful tool that is present in classrooms today books for elementary students, whether it be electronically or a hard copy. Reading is becoming more and more important for younger students. When I was in elementary school I learned to read in first grade, but now they are lowering the age. Students need to learn language early on so that they have the ability to learn multiple languages that are not just part of their culture. The world is becoming more diverse and students need to be able to speak in different languages to succeed in other places in the world other than the classroom.

  1. I agree cultural factors have majorly affected the classroom especially the use of technology. Even since I was in elementary school, the technology has greatly improved. In my field experience classroom all the teachers are given ipads to use in attempts to make a paperless classroom. Students also have the resource of laptops and complete a variety of online assignments. Another example is the use of oncourse at IU. Our grades and academic content is completely online.
